‘We sacrifice a lot to be a part of this team,’ said Slater, a six-time Pro Bowler as a special teams ace. ‘There’s a lot demanded of you, a lot of pressure put on you and there’s a price to be paid. The NFL made a classy move this week by inviting George H.W. Bush the oldest living ex-president to be the honorary coin flipper Sunday at the Super Bowl.
Bush, 92, recently fought off pneumonia so his health remains in question. He has not yet accepted the invitation due to complications from his health.
Though it seems odd to ask a 92-year-old man who has no real affiliation with the sport to toss the coin, Bush does live in Houston, which is where the Falcons and Patriots will clash. And he is a big sports fan.
Bush showed up at the NCAA Tournament’s Final Four last year at NRG Super Cheap Jerseys Stadium and for years was a regular at Astros games.
